The above visual is based on a blog post by Tristan about providing meaningful comments fast. I never imagined anyone would think about how to comment and what would make your comments useful. It certainly was an eye-opener for me and it’s super simple. Would highly recommend that you read his blog post. This blog post was originally conceived I believe based on another of his blog posts about “How to Guarantee 100 Comments on a Blog Post”. The idea there being that one should take the time and post comments on other people’s blogs.
What struck me while reading that article is that this is a classic example of “Reciprocation” one of the key tenets of influence described by Robert Cialdini in his book Influence. Commenting on other people’s blogs enables reciprocation in two ways, first the owner of the blog would be inclined to reciprocate, and second the readers of the blog might visit your site/blog if they find your comment interesting. This gives you a much higher bang for the comment. I’m definitely going to give this a shot and will write back with my experience.
